  • Slower Lower report

The SMOG crew got together yesterday and hit it early, had a really good Morning with lots of quality fish cooperating. even had. Mike and Julie sighting as they were fishing the same waters as we were and Mike was scoring some nice keepers on his popping cork jig rig...Big Mike scored a nice flounder that was a few inches short of legal and Gary was perching...I lost my “perch pounder” to a CNR but Gary gave me a couple that I put to use after we finished Striper fishing...brought nine nice fat white perch home for a three pound bag of skinnless, boneless filets...I lost a fish that made my heart sink...a big slab of a white perch...Biggest I have ever seen...thought it was a nice striped bass until I got it alongside and grabbed the leader...the perch pounder hook pulled when it went nuts trying to get it in the cockpit...

One Redfish is all I have caught and one of our kayakers caught three Specks...pitiful...either the below zero cold snap last winter killed off a huge number or ?? I am hopeful that August and September will bring the reds and Specks back like we had them last year...so far it has been really bad for both...Stripers and big White Perch have been feast and famine...at the very same spots...great one day, not so much the next...headed out again in the morning so I am hopeful this trip will be the one...

I hope so too. I want to check out Lower Slower waters this year and it will be better if reds and specks are there along with the SMOG crew!

Really good day today...lots of quality fish...no Specks or reds, but I did score two big ass White Perch...both over 12...they are dark bronze colored and you think you have a decent Striper...smallest was 12 3/4, the other was a hair shy of 13 inches...it was so close...caught 4 legal Stripers...C&R day...
