I had not been on the Severn in over three weeks. I launched this morning from Tucker St at 6:15. My goal today was to go exploring to see where I could find perch and/or stripers. I ended up visiting six different Severn tributaries and caught perch in each one using a Bignose spinnerbait. I was not worried about catching as many fish as possible. Rather I wanted to see if I could find perch in some of the places where I expected them to be. Once I verified they were there, I moved on. The largest perch was 10.5" with many of greater than 8".
I trolled between the tributaries hoping to find some stripers. I caught a 19” striper and two more under 10". There was quite a bit of floating SAV on the Annapolis/Crownsville side of the river making trolling there frustrating. Trolling worked better on the Arnold/Severn Park side.
Here is a tip for trolling when the wind is up. Consider the direction of the wind and try to take advantage of the shoreline to block some of the wind. With today's northerly wind, I could tuck in close to the Arnold/Severna Park shoreline and have calm water.
I was on the water for 3.5 hours and got home before it got too hot. I was able to catch perch in many locations and even got a keeper-sized striper.
