  • Are strippers in the rivers and creeks?

My plan for Saturday morning was to head to the bay bridge after some stripes. But just realized there is a torny down there and don't feel like dealing with all the boat traffic in my kayak. There is a public lainch about 40 minutes from me called Wilson point park. Its a creek right off of middle river. About a month ago there was a few stripers there in the morning then they vanished i guess to deeper water. Is it worth going down there or does anybody have any other areas for me to try Thays not 2 Hours away. Lol. And if the stripers are in the rivers is there any tips on how to find them once they go deep? Iv never had any luck catching a striper other than at the bay bridge

The short answer is yes. Some are in creeks now but they have fins and they move around to find food. So where you find them one day may not predict where they'll be the next.

The longer answer is that they will become even more prevalent in the Bay's tributaries as summer turns to fall. As the daylight shortens and the water cools, they will go on an eating frenzy to fatten up for the winter. They will chase bait all the way to the back portions of many creeks. Their increase in numbers during this feast will improve your ability to catch them in those locations. Further, they are/will not be deep. Some will be tight to shore. Others will be in 4 to 8 feet of water. You can find the former casting and the latter by casting or trolling.

I'm not familiar with your area near Middle River, but I've caught many late summer/fall stripers in creeks near Annapolis and on Kent Island.

Strippers do hang out near creeks sometimes. They are usually in 3 feet (of tequila) and will strike anything shiny that you "troll" in front of them.

Also, watch out for their "dorsal" stilletto heels, they can do a number if you're not careful...

Most likely any strippers found in creeks won't be alive.

I plan to fish the Patapsco tomorrow. I'm going to launch from Armistead park around 6 A. M. I have not fished there this year but hopefully I can find some fish. You are welcome to join me.

                Fishguts,

You're not the first poster here to refer to our favorite fish as an exotic dancer with a slip of the fingers on the keyboard, and you won't be the last.

But the good news is that the fish will indeed be found in creeks in increasing numbers in the following weeks.

The dancers' availability has nothing to do with the season -- from what I understand. Not that I speak from experience with them.
