Got out to Curtis Creek yesterday from 1-5:30 or so. Trolled a 1/4oz jighead w/ Zman SwimmerZ and a 1/2oz also with a Zman. Overcast with misty rain as has been the standard the last few days, but water clarity was solid, probably 2 feet or so and the wind never hit me harder than probably 7mph, slowing as the day went on. I worked my way down towards the 695 bridge, and landed a nice 18" rockfish on a 9' flat next to the channel. I casted a perch pounder around the sunken ship next to the bridge and caught a bunch of very small rockfish, we're talkin 4-6" juveniles, and a couple perch. I chucked a Zara Spook as well and got some fun topwater action in the 15" range which was unexpected since it was close to midday. I'm guessing the cool rain and overcast made them active.
Worked under the bridge and near the ships anchored by Jaws Marina, landing 3 more on the troll in the 15-16" range. The bite slowed as I rounded the point into the Patapsco, and that combined with the easterly winds forced me to go back into Curtis Creek. I did cast some topwater around the point after seeing some flaps of small baitfish, but no hits except for one really bold seagull who picked my topwater up. His buddies came in hot and it was a seagull party, basically ending my attempt at fishing that point. What a bunch of feathered jerks.
I turned back into the creek and got nothing until I went back under the bridge when I got into a fun school of really solid white perch on the Perch Pounder. Trolled back to the launch, landing one more rockfish about 16". Overall, the 1/40z. got every single bite, and despite trying a variety of other lures on my other rod, the 1/4oz was the hot ticket. Tons of bait back in there, getting chased by a lot of 8-12" rockfish. Bodes well for a fun fall (hopefully). Perch bite was also still hot, which is a huge confidence booster when the rockfish slow down. A fun, unexpectedly productive day!
