  • Lewes then Honga

Fished roosevelt inlet saturday. Flounder seem to have departed with the hurricane. Water was brown. Fish were either not there or not biting at all. Only managed a couple throwbacks. Moved to the Honga for sunday morning, had some nice action on bunch of 10-20" rock in two feet of water chasing bait against the bank and on points with current, also a bunch of snapper blues, and one speckled trout. Talked to some guys that said they have been doing well on the trout in the area using bait. Need to bring some peelers if i get back down there this fall. looks like no decent upper bay fishing for a while anyway.

I've been dying to get back to the Honga, I was not certain how that would work this week ...wasn't it muddy, too? Guys with power boats were jetting over there from Solomons lately, but it is a long drive for me.

water looked good. I could see my jig down 2-3 feet and could easily watch the crabs crawling around the bottom in the shallows. Hardly any floating debris or floating/drifting grass either.

Thanks for the report if you don't mind - where did you launch at Honga?

there are several ramps/access points available on either side of the honga. you can launch at either of the two bridges on the hooper island side and there is another ramp down near the south end of hoopers island. Also a couple ramps around Wingate on the east side. All these areas should have good shallow water fishing nearby.
