First fish of the year! The Blue Catfish 01-06-2019

Myself and several others went down to Mattawoman Creek to get into some tasty blue catfish as suggested by Ron Ault. My friend TomyTek organized this outing and seven of us were able to get out. The weather was great and it was a good way to get the fishing itch out of the way until warmer days. Here is a video of the day.....

That looks like a blast Moc! Cool to see so many people at Mattawoman in the winter. It can be a ghost town sometimes. If you guys want company next time, I'd love to join!

I am going to plan on going down February or March. Especially if they are calling for one of those fluke warm days.

Your videos are always well edited and instructive.

I've caught one blue catfish in my life. It was in Mattawoman last summer not far from the sunken barge. It was only a little guy compared to the ones in your video. It surprised me because it came up to hit a bass popper.

Where does everyone get their alewife? I haven't been able to find any in stores in Virginia, do you catch them yourselves?

Most bait shops carry it, or even Dicks sporting goods in the freezer.

I actually had no idea you could buy frozen bait at dicks, thanks for the tip! Gotta search for it next time I'm there.
