24" Striper - Weems Creek 9/13

Another good morning on the creek, water is clearing up, creek was full of bait fish, caught a snapper blue, plenty of perch and this nice 24" rockfish. Was on my way back, trolling a 3" white grub on 1/8 oz green/orange jighead when it hit about 100 yards from ramp.

Bluefish were hungry, bit off a lot of grub tails.

Has to be the orange shirt that brings all the luck

Nice catch. The orange shirt did not work for me. Maybe I need to stain it up a bit and give it another shot.

Where do you launch from at weems and are there any time constraints there?

Where do you launch from at weems and are there any time constraints there?

I launch at Tucker Rd ramp, it is run by Annapolis Parks and Rec, I think it is for Annapolis residents only. However you can launch at Jonas Green Park and paddle across the Severn. My guess is the Severn is very good fishing now also.

My Father-in-law had lunch at Harrisons on Tilghman Island today, word is the Choptank is full of stripers, blues, sea trout and some flounder. The blues are over 20".

One of his friends gave him some really nice bluefish filets that he is going to smoke. I thought the filtets had come from a nice fat rockfish until I looked close.

I think the bait fish might be heading up the tributaries looking for cleaner water. Bigger fish are following

What mud?!?! What debris??

During the tournament I marked lots of fish in 30-35' of water between the bridge spans. On the way back to the South River on Sunday I marked tons of fish in 40' off the green can just south of Thomas Point. That mud is only in the upper 3rd of the water column. The fish haven't gone anywhere and they still gotta eat...

Weems did not treat me well this afternoon. The water quality was much better (~18" viz next to the ramp at 2:00 pm). However, the fish had lockjaw. I cast steadily using three different lures for 1.5 hours without a catch (I had several follows, but they did not bite hard enough to get hooked). Finally I caught a scrawny perch. I ended up with about 5 perch in 2 hours.

Then on the way back, I dunked my Shimano Symmetre reel in the creek for about 10 seconds (only a quick grab kept the whole rod from sinking). The saved rod must have been yearning to be free, as the top half of that ultralight rod fell off on the way in. When I beached the boat at the ramp, only the butt end was there.

Bummer about the rod- I had decent luck with small plastic shads on 1/16 oz jig heads on my ultra light outfit at Cobb Island tonight with white perch- fished off the pier at my Sister's place
