I ventured out near the Naval Academy bridge for two hours this afternoon. I started in an area that has been automatic for perch all summer. Today I cast three different lures for more than 1.5 hours with only three fish caught. All of them were pickerel! The largest (shown below) was about 18". All three hit the Strike King Micro-King spinner bait in 1/16 oz size. I was happy to catch pickerel but still can't figure out where the perch were today. I did notice that the water color and clarity was not nearly as good as I found in Weems last Sunday.
After leaving my honey hole, I ventured out into more exposed shoreline and slow trolled three ultralight rods. I did eventually catch one small perch to avoid a perch skunk for the day.
The water quality may be forcing fish into different and smaller areas. If you have the time, get out there and see if you can find those areas where the fish are hanging out.
