  • Suggestions on where to fish on Saturday

    Hi All,

I am looking for suggestions on where to go fishing tomorrow? This will be my maiden voyage for me and my 2014 13' Hobie Revolution. I am thinking about going to Matawomen Creek or maybe going to fish for Stripers or White Perch at a yet to be determined location. I am going to be shaking out my gear along with getting used to being in the kayak. I have kayak fished for years in the upper Potomac with a sit inside kayak so I am not a complete tender foot. I suspect tomorrow will be a half day fishing experience since the winds are going to pick up as the day progresses. Maybe I can find a sheltered location and extend the day.

Anyone have suggestions on a good place to start my Hobie Revolution fishing adventure?

    Thanks,
    Eric

I’d avoid Mattawoman tomorrow. There’s a tournament for the glitter boys and they were out in force prefishing today and the parking lots almost full according to a few Snaggedline folks out today. Add in the weekend crowd and that will be a very crowded creek. Winds tomorrow make most places I go not very appealing.

      Eric,

If you just want a short shakedown cruise -- a half day outing is unrealistic given the wind forecast, Weems Creek from the Tucker Street launch is a possibility. (Check your AACC course handout.) You'll find leeside protection on the ramp side of the creek. But what you won't find are white perch. It's too early for them. Finding stripers may be a stretch too. It's simply too soon for reliable fishing in Weems especially since the tidal pickerel have disappeared.

If you want time on the water and a realistic chance of catching fish, I'd look for an Eastern Shore pond with an east/west orientation and I'd fish the southern shoreline for protection from the wind that's projected to grow throughout the day.

But honestly, unless your future window to fish is very small, I'd wait for a better wind forecast before going out at all.

Big Thanks to everyone for your responses. I think I am going to put my maiden voyage off for another weekend. Darn the wind!

Thanks again and have a great weekend,
        Eric
