  • Fletcher's good news report

The first good news is that I didn't break my rod today! My new rod got baptized on the second cast.

The Potomac was extremely clear, 2-3 feet of visibility, to the point where you could see the fish strike on the retrieve.
Light pollen on the surface, a light overcast, made for good fishing conditions. The wind was blowing 15-20 straight up the river, giving the fly rod guys the blues, it was blowing a belly in my braided line that didn't interfere with the retrieve of my darts.

Lemon /lime darts with a green Krystal Flash tail did the trick.

    And the fish did strike.
In 1 1/2 hours I caught about 12-15 fish. Steady and consistent, but only fair by Shad run standards.
It'll only get better for the next couple of weeks.

How were the crowds? I was thinking of trying to get out next week when my kid has spring break, but might think twice if its crazy down there.

Not too crowded today from 10:30-12:30 from shore. Once the cherry blossom festival is over the midweek crowds are tolerable.

All of the rowboats were out being blown around.

I hiked about 1/2 mile up river from the boathouse to the rock ledges.
