My guess on why those fish were floating is some light form of barotrauma. You were not fishing super deep, but the rapid decompression of the water pressure can cause the swim bladder to swell. Thus causing them to float for a moment. This is somewhat similar to the "bends" for humans. It should not have any lasting effects on the fish as long as they are promptly released.
As to why this is happening all of a sudden, I have no idea. That's just my best guess.Annapolis
