I was working at Sandy Point this morning so I had the opportunity to interview many of the captains who went fishing this morning. Even though I arrived at 0530, I needed a AAPD escort to get through the traffic jam from route 50.
I was there until 1PM and only six rock keepers were reported. Those that caught them were jigging the Eastern bridge pilings or fishing cut bait off of Hackett's. Non of the trollers reported any hits let alone fish. The rock sizes were 22 and 26 inches. Very few small perch were caught, none were kept. One fellow caught about a 10 pound channel cat but says he didn't want to eat it because it was too slimy.
Bait used was everything from chicken strips to blood worms. No one reported trying to live line today.
One report is kind of scary for those of use who fish kayaks in the bay. This guy says he snagged a Remora south of Bloody Point. He threw it back so I can say it was a for real Remora. I'm sure most of us know what fish Remora's like to hook up with and I can remember several Bull Shark sightings in the Bloody Point area. ( one I actually saw myself )
I was planning to throw the yak in as the wind at Mezick pond seemed to be down. However, several folks told me their 28+ boats were being thrown around by the wind out in the bay so I decided I didn't want to work that hard.
