New to the forums, just moved to MD, and just got a Hobie.

I juust PCSed here from Hawaii. Been here almost a month and bought a Hobie Mirage Oasis (actually by the wife's request for a tandem kayak). Immediately went out on the Severn River for a test drive and to go fishing a bit. Didn't catch anything or even get a bite. It was probably from going out at about 2pm-5pm.

I'll probably be adding a few things to the Hobie, and I'll put up some threads/images on that as time goes. Will also be going fishing in MD quite a bit, hopefully at least once or twice a week.

My next attempt is going to be going up to some smaller lakes in the Reisterstown area. Anyone fish around there (not Liberty Res, due to the zebra mussel situation)? I'll let you guys know what happens when I go up there tomorrow.

Would also be interested in joining some type of group that goes yaking periodically if any such groups exist and are active. I did look at a few that have been mentioned in some posts but they seem to have faded off and their calendars of events stopped last year or the year before.

A dozen (or maybe two?) of us fish the Severn regularly. It's a fickle body of water, and this is an overall 'off' year depending on what species you are targeting.

Liberty & Prettyboy Reserviors require a separate vessel permit, check into the rules & regs of your body of water before you dip your kayak in, i'm sure the 2019 permits are long gone by now:

Welcome to the area and to the forum.

It's true that the Meet & Greets on this forum have fallen off in number but many regional friendships were made as a result of them. Those folks still get together regularly to fish as weather and their schedules allows. Both factors have been problematic for some this year.

There's a big gathering this weekend in southern MD -- details on this forum.

Otherwise you did well to let folks know where intend to fish and when. You can make your own Meet and Greet that way.

As Michael said, the Severn has been stingy this year and even last year for stripers. But its white perch fishing is improving daily.

Welcome to the forum and to Maryland. You'll certainly have plenty of chances to fish living here. As you've noticed, summer rockfish hunting can be tough without an engine to run and gun, but there are places that can produce if you put enough time in. As Mark said, bring a white perch setup so that you are always able to get a confidence boost from perch if the rockfishing is tough. If you're interested in lake fishing, another one to check out is Little Seneca Lake. There's a soft launch by the bridge in Boyds, MD, and it also has a large boat ramp. It gets a lot of pressure but it's a beautiful place to fish and paddle. It's a $5 launch fee but requires no special permits.

One of the best ways to get into a variety of species here is to hit the tidal creeks. You'll have access to largemouth, snakehead, blue catfish, white perch, and crappie all within one space. Thanks for the info guys. I will probably put up something in a few weeks to try to meet up with a few anglers here (I'll try to plan it out a week in advance).

I'm working on a anchor trolley and anchor setup right now, as well as adding a fish finder. Hoping that I'll get that all installed by next week.

Matt, I will go about checking out many of those launches on the map you provided.

mchottie, I will check out the application and make some calls, might be cool to go yak at those reservoirs. Only thing is the restrictions for the mussels.

Welcome to the forum...there are a bunch of active posters (besides me) that try to keep the fellowship alive...it is difficult when you are having an “off year” of fishing (catching) and the weather conditions are extreme...this week promises to be very hot, so it is mostly very early mornings and late evening kayaking...our SMOG meet and greet Saturday is a 5:15 am launch due to tides and the forecast hot weather...but like others have said, new blood brings new energy, new ideas...all welcome!

Welcome to the forum, great bunch of guys here always willing to share a lot of good information.

Regarding fishing, what I usually do is post a thread early in the week where I am fishing and what time - you are almost always likely to meet up with a couple of guys. Most of us here are spread around geographically, so there is usually someone in every area where you are likely to fish.

Welcome! I’ve been a Severn regular but as others have noted the river / patterns have felt a little off so I’ve explored other areas as well as across the bridge! What I can tell you is that the overall fishery provides awesome opportunities to explore from the Susquehanna all the way to the mouth of the Bay and everywhere in between. Have fun!
