08-04-2019 Kayak Crabbing

This is a week late report, but I had to finish the video. I ended up catching 3/4 of a bushel off of my kayak. The baby crabs were out in force, destroying chicken necks at a lighting pace. My most productive depths were 4 to 6 feet of water. Not much catching in depths above 10 feet... at least in this river. I used 600 feet of chicken necks and 200 feet of razor clams. Both baits caught crabs, but the short razor clam line out preformed the longer chicken neck trot line.

Di you buy the clambags ready to go, or are you buying bulk and then breaking them down to individual bags for the snoots?

I made some rope handles, two near the front and two near the back. Then I use two bungies and slide them under the hinge area and the front locking bungie of the Outback front hatch. I then just hook the four bungie hooks on each of the four handles on the barrel that I installed.

I bought a pack of the clam bags, then I filled each one with clams and then I attached each bag to the snoodline.

Where I come from, we call that a "stuffed fried hard crab" - haven't had one since I was a kid, but man it is tasty.

Something else that reminded me of, take the same crab cake mix, dip it in batter and deep fry it - we used to call that a "crab fluff."

Many, many years ago I used to work for Hasslinger's. Their crab fluff was a backfin crab cake dipped in batter. The only place I'm aware of that stills sells them is Crabs to Go in OC.
