  • A bull red in the Upper Chesapeake Bay, MD (Sep 14, 2019)

I got lucky again. This year, I just couldn’t fish regularly. I barely fish.

After weeks of no fishing, I went to the Rod & Reel marina (west) in Chesapeake Beach, MD for a morning fish.
I ended up with a bull red on a 3 OZ white bucktail with a 6” white shad.

    Thanks
    Joe

Actually, it’s happened quite a bit this time of year in that area.

Yep, Walleye Pete has caught dozens...but that is a heck of a catch out of a kayak, congratulations...just wonder why the puppy drum are so rare this year, very few being caught...not complaining, with the big bulls (actually the biggest fish are females) being released the breeders will replenish the species...

Way to go Joe! Quite the catch, especially on the troll.

Very nice catch but your definition of upper bay is a lot different than mine.

Yes, the definition was different. When I fished Chesapeake Beach/Deal area mostly long time ago, I thought I was fishing in the mid bay. The term changed when I fish the mouth of the bay mostly. For the VA anglers I know, the mid bay is south of Point Lookout, smith point the border between VA and MD. For this forum, I should have indicated as mid-bay.

Had that rod not been leashed it would've been game over! That's an awesome catch! I always waver between leashes and floats for my rods, currently I use the floats but I can see the appeal of the leashes too.

Awesome catch!! I saw drum bust up a school of small rockfish at brownies beach two weeks ago. It looked like bombs going off in the water. The small rock were airing out trying to evade the drum. Right at the shoreline.
If you don’t mind how deep were you fishing? I may try out and south from CB next week.
