  • One lonely Flounder came out to play

SMOG and Whenican fished St Jerome’s today. For me it was a fairly typical day of midsize stripers and a bluefish early. Nothing special or noteworthy. Headed over to our flounder spot during a brisk outgoing tide. Normally we fish near slack so I didn’t have big expectations. Second cast I thought I was snagged and then I felt a head shake and the tell tale straight down pull of a good flounder. When I saw it I cursed that I didn’t have a net, it was definitely a keeper. After a minute or so of it splashing me every time I tried to grab the hook (I only had 8lb test and didn’t trust a straight pull) I finally hoisted it aboard. A beautiful 18” fish, which isn’t big for the OC crowd but is a monster for us down in St Mary’s. Amazing how one fish can make a trip.

Yep, I almost had my one fish today as well...monster Spanish mackerel lost at boat side after all the drag burning runs were done...got the fight, just no meat..and approximately 60-80 Stripers C&R...epic day...top water bite at daybreak was spectacular...
