Attention Anne Arundel Kayakers!

If you have not heard or read, a Baltimore based kayak club- Canton Kayak Club, is storing a rack of kayaks in one of our recently opened kayak parks- Homeport. Was there this morning and saw it. Also there is an article in today's Capital regarding this. Please check the link, read the article, and write our County Exec and Director of Parks and Recreation about this. No where does it mention that Canton pays any fees for the storage and usage of our park. I certainly do not think this is fair.

I think the bigger issue is people from Baltimore coming around.

I don’t see the problem here? Promoting, supporting kayaking and allowing access is a good thing. As for fair, even if I could I wouldn’t store mine anywhere.

The Anne Arundel Water Access Program is for the residents of Anne Arundel County, not the whole State. The neighbors in the adjoining development are not happy with us being there to start with. Having non residents storing their kayaks there can do nothing other than get them pissed off.

Are you are of any fee being charged to the Canton club for storage, launching fees- nothing was mentioned in the article?

Sorry but this post was the first I heard of them being there. I am going to stop by the afternoon to see what you saw first hand.

I have no gripe with the kayak rack, but it IS frustrating that non AA CO residents get amenities before ACTUAL AA CO residents like myself.

They literally say in the article that the rack was approved because it costs the county ZERO dollars... Maybe they should have negotiated and had them build a Canton Rack for Canton Use, and a rack for AA CO use? Common sense not so common... And then they would grip about the cost of maintenance and upkeep of the AA CO rack...

I'm surprised Lisa didn' t hear of this and let us know what was going on. She seemed to be pretty much on top of what the county was doing.
