I just wanted to check in with the Snagged Line crew. The SMOG aren't the only ones in the Lower Slower enjoying the late summer/fall bounty. Every since I heard reports of Spanish mackerel and speckled trout in the area, I've attempted to target them when the opportunity arose. This week it finally paid off. I went out with a buddy earlier this week, in the St. Mary's River. We were trolling and began the afternoon with smaller rocks, in the 9-12" range. We did manage to find some in the 16-18" range. The real pay off was towards sunset on an incoming tide. My buddy managed to hook up with a solid 16" speckled trout. I wasn't getting any bites from them. When he hooked into his second one (19.5") on the same lure, I knew it was time to switch up. Soon after, I got a bite on something a little different. Generally, I fish without a net. I'm really glad my buddy was there with his that day. I landed a 20" speckled trout. We were trolling white bucktails with chartreuse curly tails. Tight lines, thanks to the SMOG, some SM not so old guys.20190925_211801.jpg20190925_212114.jpg

They are still here. We managed to get five, 16-20", with decent and healthy schoolie rock mixed in. My buddy landed timage000000.jpghe vast majority as I rushed out of work.

The Specks are in full migration mode..should get better and better in their usual haunts...Spanish were still being caught with deep planers and spoons along the 30’ channels at buoy 18- mixed in were some Big Bluefish and an occasional speedy striper hitting lures pulled at six knots...”Work Release” caught 18 Spanish and mixed Bluefish trolling spoons...so they seem to be in deeper water as balls of bait were hard to find Inshore in 12-20’ of water and around the shoals at PLO...creeks, rivers and grassbeds should hold schools of Speckled Trout mixed in with tailor blues and school rock...
