  • Magothy River Rockfish, Friday 27

Put in at 9 am with a lot of wind and very choppy water. But lots of birds were working just south of Ferry Point so I “chased” them as best I could for 20 minutes or so. Only caught small fish and it was exhausting so I headed to protected waters of nearby coves. Immediately started landing keeper-size fish in nice calm water while trolling paddle tails on jig heads. Caught 7-8 keeper-size in the three coves I fished as well as other smaller fish. Largest was a 21 incher (dinner tonight). Best day I’ve here in two years and it would have continued but I had other stuff to do! May try tomorrow morning again before I head to Avon in OBX on Sunday.

Are there any public launches to get into the Magothy?

      Keith,

Spriggs Farm Park. Note that access is controlled by a combination lock.

      Details are here: https://www.aacounty.org/locations-a...on-the-magothy

There's also Beachwood Park which is at the upper end of the Magothy:

Sounds like a plan. Let us know.

Got back from OBX on Sunday, Oct 7, so went out today (Monday) in the Magothy at 4:30 pm. Fairly windy, but water was smooth and 73 degrees. Trolled the local coves and biggest fish landed was this 19 incher. Lots of birds sitting around in the water, but none working baitfish that I could see.
