With the weather cooling off what should someone new to the area like myself target when trying to find perch or rock fish. My work schedule is calming down a bit and I want to put the yak in the water more. I live in the Annapolis/ Naval Academy area

I fished in several Severn tidal creeks and ponds over the past two weeks. There are still some perch in the shallow shoreline spots, although they will move away from there soon. I have caught them using small spinner baits.

The bait that was in the creeks a few weeks ago has left and moved into the river toward the bay. The rockfish will follow the food. You may consider early morning topwater (a former mid caught stripers off the USNA seawall last weekend before the football game). You can also troll in the river. Try various depths and look for dropoffs, mounds, or pockets.

Thanks for the tips brother. I’m hoping to get some more fishing in before it gets too cold and I’m stuck bank fishing
