  • Subsistence Fishing- help DNR

For those who want to fill out their groceries with fresh fish and get exercise, too...why not also help Maryland DNR control invasive fish? A friend who is a commercial fishermen urges us to help her out...she and her husband dropped $400 of net in the Pax river last week...twenty minutes later it was ruined by a ton of blue catfish tangled and shredded her net...blue catfish are the better tasting catfish in the species...small and medium sized catfish are safe, delicious fish...giant blue cats are not considered “table fare” because of the accumulation of heavy metals and pesticides in their flesh...They are real rod benders but not Good for food...they do make great fertilizer and our native Bald Eagles love them...as do buzzards...PIA to load in my pickup truck and unload in the field next door, but birds of prey, foxes, skunks and possums gotta eat, too...Nothing in nature gets “wasted”...
