  • MD Specks!

Took my son on his first long range kayak trip on Saturday and we had an epic trip! He got his first speck followed by several others and many stripers up to 20" as well. We found fish very shallow on the edges or over grass beds in 3-5'. We trolled 4 and 5" zman deizel minnowz in smoky shad, green pumpkin, and new penny using light jigheads and weedless weighted swimbait hooks. The 5" zman in green pumpkin rigged on a weighted swimbait hook took most of the larger trout. My son trolled using his dock demon fishing rod sitting on my front hatch. I think we ended up catching about a dozen specks 12-20" (all but one keeper sized) and probably 2 dozen+ stripers mostly in the 14-18" class, but 2 slightly larger at 19" and 20".

Brian (Slobberbob) and his son (littlebob) joined us for part the morning and our beach lunch. It was a beautiful day and glad to spend part of it with them.

Great day for you and your son. Shaping up to be a great speck year on both shores.

You carry a grill on your yak? Talk about confidence!

Glad to see you and your son had a great time and the boy was all bundled up in a PFD. You wouldn't believe how many parents I have to talk too about having PFD's on their kids in a boat.

I brought a grate to cook on and and some charcoal to make a little campfire with. This was my first time trying this and it turned out awesome.

Both of us wear our PFDs at all times on the water. Unfortunately, we both have personal experience that things can go bad very quickly without warning on the water...

Littlebob and I enjoyed it as well. Thanks for the invite to join you guys! It was a fun day. I would have gotten there earlier if I knew you were going to give all the specks sore jaws before we had a shot at them

My son has been kayaking with me plenty, but it was the first time we tried any fishing from the kayak. He didn't want to reel any of the fish in and more enjoyed trying to net them with his little play net and then assisting with releasing them. A few play breaks on the beach and sandbars kept him happy all day.

We found a couple more on the the way in, i think they just moved off of the original hotspot that I had found them in.

Nice job on the specks, and I love the shore lunch. I do that also from time to time. The last one I did was to steam a few crabs on the shoreline.....very fun and peaceful.
