  • 1st outing below Wingo

Finally got out this year. Wasn't planning on going but woke up early to some nice overcast. Wish I would've gotten out earlier to take advantage.
Caught a few decent chunky smallies and a few catfish. Nothing on topwater.
Lost my favorite crankbait and snapped a St Croix in half while fighting a fish. Had to handline that one back to the yak.

Beautiful scenery and nice smallies! I’m sorry to hear about the snapped St. Croix!

I was there on Saturday morning, in the same area, between Deer Creek and Lapidum. I caught one decent fish in the cut at the mouth of Deer Creek. I also collected a lot of braid and mono that others had broken off.

For some reason, I've never done well in that stretch between Deer Creek and Lapidum.

          Were you above Deer Creek?

Yes. I always go up from DC. Usually start at the N end of that island and work that area.

That launch at DC sucks royally. I can't believe they haven't done any work to it.

Yeah, I did it once last year and swore I would never do it again...not sure we should hold our breath for them to improve it.

Nice going! Always great to see photos of a smallmouth bass on here.

I made the mistake of pulling my outback down the launch at DC. My outback ended up pushing me into the water where I nearly fell over from the rocks there. It could have been ugly.
