Surfdog, Shield, and I met at Anglers at 6am where we got our bait. We headed over the Bay Bridge to a boat launch site off of Goodhand Creek Road. The weather was beautiful. Morning temperatures were around 49 degrees going up to 80 degrees during the day. The winds were less than 5 mph with sunny skies.

While at the boat ramp we noticed bushels of dead female crabs dumped in the water. The dead crabs made the area small like rotten seafood. It pissed us off seeing all these dead female crabs. I do not know who did this or why, but it does not look legal to me. Also, at this ramp, it is quite busy. There is only one ramp and many crabbers use this ramp to crab this eastern bay area. We had to wait to launch and when we got back around 11:30am, we had to wait in line to bring our yaks in.

Anyway I got my skunk off in short order. I caught an 9 inch rockfish on a 1\ 8th jig head tipped with a Gulp white curly tail swimming mullet. It was soon after that I caught a double header of perch on a top and bottom rig baited with bloodworms on a number 4 hook. Shield caught a 9 inch bluefish I believe on squid and baby rockfish. Surfdog managed two lager rockfish and some perch. One rockfish was 18 inches and the other, that was released, was 17 inches. He caught them on a top and bottom rig while drifting peeler crab in the channel near the east side of the sea wall. I ended up catching dozens of baby rockfish and 3 big perch, which I had to weed through many small ones. The perch were caught with bloodworms. They did not want my jig or spinner bait. My best spot for my biggest perch was in the eddies and drop offs on the west side of the sea wall. All in all it was a nice day on the water. We even helped Shield get his transducer setup with duct seal in his kayak.

Nice report, Martin. I wonder why watermen would dump the crabs right there at the dock? Maybe they were culling them at the end of the day? That seems weird. It might be worth giving DNR a call so they can keep an eye on that area.

Thanks for the report Martin. You probably should send copies of those photos to DNR, seems like wanton waste.
