  • Western Shore Crabs (26 June 2020)

Yakscientist and I went down to try our luck again running the trot line from the kayak for crabs. A lot of the spots that were closer to the launch that we crabbed before were already taken, even though it was early, so we tried going up a smaller creek nearby. The water depth was 5-7' here at the high tide and we each ran 600' of CN's parallel on either side of the creek. My line seemed to be producing more crabs, although both of us were finding some really nice size crabs (~6"). The spot I was in had some oyster shells in it, which may have been part of it, although both lines were in muddy bottom. We crabbed until about 1200 and each had close to a bushel of crabs. Most of the crabs were heavy too, which was even better.

    No perch crab this time

Nice. I can really see the Indian Princess in the shells on these crabs.

Thanks! I had to look up what that meant - interesting bit of history there.
