  • Good fishin on the Honga

Fished sunday 1pm to dark. Fished only in the shallows five feet or less. Thought about hitting the bridge for a while but there were a bunch of boats there. Started fishing the points and marsh banks caught some undersize rock and couple small specks. Found some areas with nice tide rips toward late afternoon and had countless rockfish with a few keeping size and ended up with two nice keeper trout as well. also a couple small blues and one wayward flounder. Everything on white gulp except caught a few nice rock trolling from place to place with an unweighted tony15. Gotta love the scenery down there, and pretty good fishin at times too!

That's a nice haul. I especially like the Specs. I will have to fish down there someday soon. Maybe I will put it on my bucket list for next year.

Just curious, where do you launch to fish the Honga? I did a trip to barren island and launched in that small area next to the small bridge. Is the Honga actually the body of water opposite the barren island gap? or is that just a bay? Sorry I don't have a chart and cannot figure out how everything is labeled in that area.

We were fishing the lower island (abandoned) so we launched in Hoopersville at the boat ramp there. It is right next to the fish/crab/oyster company there. The guys that fish the bridge seem to launch from one of the 2 islands by the bridge.
If we did Meet and Greet we could eat at Salty's in Fishing Creek after.
