I think this picture from today kind of sums up my last two trips to St Jerome’s.


One of the few things I legally hooked was myself. Fished outgoing tide both times this week. The creek has an odd milky color from all the rain. As a result the trout have vanished and other species are sparse and scattered. I did get an 11” croaker today, otherwise it was a few schoolies that we weren’t trying for. Hopefully we’ll get a few days of dry.
By the way, it popped out easy, I try to pinch barbs on all my lures and jigs.

Glad you got the hook out. I hope you did not get any Gulp juice into the wound. Who knows what that would have done. That jighead looks well used. I have a bunch of them like that that look beat up to a fisherman but do not bother the fish.

I noticed a decline in catching local species in the Severn since the rainy period began 2 to 3 weeks ago. Yesterday morning was an anomaly. I found a sheltered spot at high water and had good fishing for perch and pickerel. I caught more of each in two hours than I had in the previous 3 trips last week.

I am curious to see what the dual tropical storms will bring us toward the end of next week. I hope we do not get excessive rain in the Chesapeake watershed.

Mike had the most luck today...he had several species- I only had three...early morning we had some top water action until daylight, then the fish scattered...lots of bait...I mean lots of bait! No concentrations of predators, but big balls of bait...Tried several colors today, but the old standbys of White/chartreuse and 4 inch gulp were favored...Threw metal, poppers, walk the dog...paddletails, jerkbaits...Bounced bottom...Mike stuck with the gulp- no pun intended...hook in your leg is no joke...Not a horrible day, but with all the rain, thunderstorms and now winds...get out when you can...
