  • Among the garbage and the flowers

    Feeling poetic today.
The late Leonard Cohen wrote that line in his song: "Suzanne"

I had the occasion to fish the shore from Canton Waterfront Park this morning for half an hour, after stopping by Tochterman's to restock some spinner jig materials.
I used to fish the Harbor part of the Patapsco from Harbor Hospital, around Ft. McHenry to Canton back in the "tin boat" days. Less seldom with the canoe in the past 20 years.

Walking along the rip rap, I cast a single spinner jig along the shoreline. I hooked an 8 inch Striper on the first cast, and had several other hits.

I am still amazed at the shear amount of floating garbage and assorted debris in the water and along the shore. It was offset by the scenery, both the flower beds along the park, and the two legged scenery passing by.

It could have been a lot worse.

You were in Injun territory and the Calvary wouldn't have been able to save you if something went South.

You were in Bloodymore and police officer numbers are shrinking so they can't be everywhere at once.

My son has lived in and around the Canton area for the past 8 years. Like any city you just need to practice an ounce of common sense and you’ll be fine. Agree on the trash, and the scenery can be delightful. If you rented a scooter you could troll the sea wall.

My point is that I don't consider Baltimore to be safe enough to go there anymore.

That area just seems to collect the garbage. Almost need to bring rakes to launch a kayak there some days

I launched there with my son on Monday and the garbage in the park and at the water's edge was significantly more then usual. We did have good action include one surprise and several other usual suspects. (sorry to highjack the thread)

The fish don't know that it is garbage.

Great smile on the boy's face tells the story.

That flounder certainly is a surprise for that area.

Nice flounder! I was surprised when I got one in the South River last year but the old timers told me that they have seen them in the Patapsco. I guess they weren't telling fish stories.

I actually caught one around this same time in curtis creek a couple years back as well
