Last Saturday I went out in the morning and typed a nice report when I got back but some how messed it up and figured I would try again. My normal routine is to head up creek and catch as many fish with a beetle spin as possible and if there is a top water bite through the WP. Today I decided I was going to troll the whole time for stripers. Since it was early I think 630 or so I trolled the WP and on my other rod a 4" Kietech shad. I decided I was going to head for the 695 bridge instead of my normal route. Shortly after I turned right out of the creek the shad got hit. With a good fight I landed my first fish in 15 min or so. I got back on track after getting turned a bit and again the shad went down again. This time just a skinny young guy. For the next 10-20 min I caught 2 more of the little guys. As I came up to the coast guard area the shad went down for the forth time. The rod bend was bad, the drag started to go, and the kayak just started turning. I grabbed the rod to loosen the drag since I was worried of a snag and it breaking. As I grabbed the rod I felt the fish and it ran more. As I was spinning I could see my WP line wrapping around my perch rod that was in my crate. I started to try and reel the WP in while trying to control the fish with the other. All of a sudden nothing. It was gone. I lost pressure on the fish not paying attention and dropping the rod tip. Good chance my PB striper or cat. Lesson learned. Land the fish untangle the mess later. As I trolled on not much was happening. I took the WP off since everything was under the surface. I didn't have to many jig heads left and wanted to try something so I out on a chatterbait with a Kietech and trolled that along with the shad I have been getting hit on. On the way to the pivot railroad bridge I picked up one more little guy. I kept going as my goal was to get to 695
I went to check my chatterbait to make sure it was running right when I looked over my other rod was getting wacked. This was a big fish. Pulling all over and taking drag when ever close I was hoping for a large rock. The water was very stained from the rain so couldn't tell that it was a 26" channel cat until it came to the top. A great fight. I use 12lb floro on the rod and it worked it good. I kept going to the bridge with no luck. Turned around and decided to just troll the one rod I have been getting hit with. I didn't get hit again until I almost got to the coast guard area. Again just a dink. I was just about to turn right to head down the shore on a drop off there when the rod was crushed. Again hoping for my biggest rock but ended up with a 23"channel that was just as strong as his friend. There was a group of kayakers that looked like they might be heading in as so being happy with two fat cats and several other undersized but fun fish I decided to get in and out of their way. Overall had a great time, learned some about my speed, and other tactics when trolling. I'm sure I'll report soon.

      Congrats on your nice outing.

You're a brave fellow to lay those channel cats in your lap.

How in the world did you keep their pectoral fins from stabbing you?
