  • Severn (9-13-2020)

I launched my kayak on 9/13 in the morning to glassy Severn river conditions and surprisingly high water levels for low tide! My goal was to try and repeat last years trifecta of a blue, spanish mackerel, and a rockfish. After about 45 minutes, I hooked my first rockfish, which was around 20-21". I didn't catch much else until around 1000 when the current seemed to pick up a bit and I landed five additional fish from 19-23", plus some smaller schoolies in less than an hour. The bite slowed down after that. Since the temperature drop, the fish seem to be more fiesty and football-sized. Usually I'll catch a few on different sized jig heads and soft plastic colors, but all of the larger fish were on chartreuse colored soft plastics with about a 1/2 oz jig head.IMG-5182.jpg

Very nice. Spending most of my fishing in the Dena I need to get down to the Severn. Caught my first keeper rock there as well as my first pickerel. Long ago though.
