This afternoon, I launched out of Cabin Creek Landing (QA County) and trolled for three hours in shallow water (<5 ft depth) near grassy shorelines in Prospect Bay.

I trolled with three 6’6” spinning rods (M, ML, and L) and used jigheads from 3/16-oz to 1/2-oz with 3” and 4” paddletails. During those three hours of steady paddling (a good workout), I caught about 15 stripers, including two at 22”, one at 20”, two at 19”, and two more at 18”. All were fat fish that pulled hard against my light tackle. All fish were returned to swim again. I tried casting to the grass for a while with a paddletail and also a popper, but had no bites. I went back to trolling.
Other than one other guy in a center console with a trolling motor working the grassy edges for a short time, I had the entire place to myself. It was peaceful and relaxing.
Traffic coming back across Kent Island to the Bay Bridge was stop and go. My drive over there took 35 mins, my trip home took 1:35.
With the cooler water temps the shallow waters near Kent Island offer some good kayak trolling opportunities now. Casting swimming lures or topwater can be good options too. Check out some of the QA County launches.
