  • Brooms Island 10/2 PM

Wife, SIL and I went out to Nan's by Broom Island, on the water at 2:30PM, Wife crabbing with 8 traps, SIL and I fishing.
Plan was to get into the main river and get wife set up crabbing in 7-9' of water, then work the oyster beds and me run out to the very point of Brooms Island where there is a 5' to 30' drop off.

Wind was stronger than the 6mph predicted, closer to a steady 10+, changed plans, wife dropped traps in 4' at mouth of the cove, SIL hung around docks (she is paddling my Coosa HD, I am in a pedal Slayer.)
As I left to try to pedal out int the river the water dropped from 4' to 7' with fish showing on the sonar, 2nd cast I landed a 19.5" rock.
SIL and I worked the area for 30 more minutes with nothing, still showing some fish on sonar.
I left them to pedal out to the point of Brooms Island to check out the drop off (1.5 miles away), I was trolling 2 rods, White and a Chartreuse jig/paddle tail. I picked up one 10" rock in 5 min. I got about 1/2 out and was getting rocked by occasional white caps. I was heading west, waves rolling in from the north hitting my broad side. Waves were getting worse, I was highly concerned of getting rolled. Looking farther out the water was all white caps, instead of the occasional I was experiencing. I abandoned the trip to the point and turned into the waves (North), I worked my way through the oyster beds on the way back, sonar showing fish but no hits.

Got back to the cove and fished around for an hour, wind died, went back to the oyster beds, lots of fish on the sonar,, no takers.
Came back to the cove mouth, lots of fish at the 4-7' drop, no takes, just after dark the water was glass and I threw a buzz bate for 1/2 hour, nothing.

Wife did get 28 largish male crabs.

Do you mind giving more information on the light pole you have pictured? It looks like you have a light saber!
