  • Magothy River Rockfish, Friday, Oct. 9

Put in at noon and trolled a rattletrap and a yellow twister-tail on a jig between Spriggs Pond and Cool Spring Cove. As soon as I got in the Cove this nice 23” rockfish hit the twister tail. Best part—people on the nearby dock cheering me on while catching the fish!

The stripers definitely are becoming more active since the water temperature has dropped considerably. I have had good luck while trolling near Dobbins Island, inside the mouth of the Magothy towards Gibson Island and between Gibson Island and Hunters Harbor. Typically the fish have been midway in the water column in 12'-16' of water. The lures of choice that have been successful for me have been 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 yellow jig heads with 5" sexy shad paddle tails or 6" chartreuse grub tails. Topwater has also been good out towards the mouth but those fish when caught have been much smaller than the ones caught while trolling.

Good luck and tight lines everyone!
