Launched out of Southwest Park at 8:30 am for a short trip. It's a nice facility, but man do people trash it up. Such a shame.
I trolled gulp minnows and paddle tails up the river and through the first pond and got absolutely nothing. The water near the launch and up to the 895 bridge was pretty well-covered with leaves and floating debris (including litter) which didn't make the trolling any easier. Also cast into a few spots where birds were diving and nada. Made my way to the far pond and fished it for maybe 30 minutes. Just as I was about to call it quits to get home for football, landed a fat 14-inch largemouth on a spinner up against the rip rap.
A guy in a bass boat that was also fishing the ponds told me he didn't get so much as a nibble all morning, but had caught several bass from shore in the 2nd pond over by the VFW earlier in the week.
SW Park is less than 15 minutes from my house and I really want to learn how to fish the area, but the returns have not been great on my first two tries. Reading reports from prior years, seems like I'm not the only one who struggles with it...
