  • First Severn perch for 2021

I fished in two Severn creeks this afternoon. The water was stained a golden brown color that did not look good. I hope it clears up soon. I managed to catch my first white perch of the year in the Severn system. I used a Bignose spinner and caught the fish in about 3' water depth near the shore. Later I caught a second perch half a mile away, again in shallow water. Neither fish was large, but they represent the first of millions of perch that will soon inhabit the Severn shoreline areas for the warmer months. Unless you are really itching to catch perch, it would be wise to wait a week or two to let more perch show up.

That is great news John! I cannot wait for the perch fun to begin in the Severn system. Last year was a lot of fun and my fishing year was cut short by my personal bout with COVID in August 2020 (I tested positive for 35 days and it took me a couple months to feel normal again).

I began the chapter in your book on light tackle trolling last night :--). I am hopeful that this year will be even better fishing than last year

The techniques described in that chapter do work. I fished for three hours this morning in water depths of 3' to 4' in my Falcon 11 kayak. I caught 15 stripers, up to 26". Good luck.
