  • Magothy River Perch, June 7

Put in at 9:30 am with flat water and little wind. Water temp was 80. Caught several perch in 3-5 feet of water, the largest being just under 10 inches.
Last week I took deliver on a Load-Rite Kayak Trailer. This will allow me to expand my fishing areas significantly since I won’t have to hump my 85+ pound Hobie onto the roof of my SUV (at 69 years old I only have so much energy left). I hope to frequent the ES and So Md several times this year, as well as the Outer Banks. Been practicing my back-up skills around the neighborhood—thanks for the tips YouTube!

    Congrats on the trailer.

I understand completely the difficulty in cartopping heavy kayaks.

My son and I went looking for perch in the upper Magothy late Sunday afternoon. We each caught a few on flies and spinner jigs but they were hard to come by -- certainly not as numerous as they are presently in the Severn. It was breezy. Also being a very warm and sunny Sunday afternoon, boaters and swimmers were out in full force. Their activity may have chased perch from the shallows.

Another noticeable difference from the Severn was the lack of cicadas on the water in the upper Magothy. I don't recall seeing even one floundering on the surface.

Mark— there were many cicadas in the water outside of Spriggs Pond where I was fishing. Several fish came up to hit them on the surface. Al

It's amazing how regionalized they are.

I heard them this morning near my home which is close to Chesapeake High School. I suspect our cicada invasion is about to start.
