Mike, I'd be happy to meet up with you at Piney. What time do you usually get to the launch? 5:00 am? No worries about heading home early, it's a long drive for me (and an earlier start than usual), so I like to make the most of the trip and stay out a little longer. Sometimes I'll grind it out for 6-8 hours trying to get that fish I drove all the way out there for haha.

Duly noted about what gear to bring. When you jig metal you use Gotcha plugs right? I have a couple of those in silver and gold.

Yes, try to launch just after 5. I’m using the Gotcha jigs but really just about any metal would work. I do change out the hooks though.

FYI, there is/was a barge at the gas dock yesterday. Windy was sporty last night. No specs for me!

I met up with Mike at 5 am on Friday and was greeted by a super stiff breeze whipping across the parking lot... so much for 5-7 mph! The water didn't look rough so we launched anyway and the wind was hardly noticeable when we were on the water, I guess the landmass of St. George's Island blocked it pretty well and it seemed to die down as the morning went on. We primarily trolled small paddle tails along grass edges and picked up a good mixture of fish all morning including rockfish, white perch, and we each got 1 speckled trout. Mine was 13", just shy of keeper size, but I was very happy with my catch! I stayed out a little longer than Mike and finished the morning with 9 rockfish, 5 perch, and 1 speck - notable fish besides the speck included a 17" rockfish and an 11" perch. All in all it was a very enjoyable morning and thank you Mike for showing me around!

Pleasure meeting you. That wind was a surprise, but we often say it is it’s own weather system there. Glad you found a speck, they’ve been very scattered. Thanks for not mentioning that you out fished me on my home turf.
