Went out yesterday to fish for snakeheads on the eastern shore for the first time since late May; I actually went back to the same spot I visited last time. When I was here last the carp were spawning and raising an absolute ruckus in the shallows, you couldn't buy a bite. Thankfully the carp got that out of their system and the snakeheads were hungry.
Got to the launch at 5am and the lot was already full... usually I don't go to the eastern shore on weekends and this is exactly why. I managed to fit my truck in a non-parking-spot spot and was on the water before the sun was up. Paddled downriver to my spot and not 10 minutes after getting my line in the water I got this nice 5 lb 10 oz snakehead on a frog:

I picked up 2 more snakeheads on the frog shortly after and once the sun cleared the treetops the bite totally shut down. Not even a sniff for hours. I was ready to go home, half-heartedly fishing my way back to the launch when, weirdly, around 12 pm the bite seemed to turn on again. I picked up a decent one just under 4 lbs on a swimbait:

And not long after that I got another 5 lb 10 oz fish on the swimbait. Never before have I caught big fish with exactly the same weight in the same trip before, that was pretty cool. This fish was especially fun because I was in the middle of a retrieve when I saw a small snakehead rise to the surface near my kayak to take a gulp of air - I was considering reeling in quickly to toss my lure at it when I noticed a second snakehead descending from the surface to the left of the first one, right in line with where my current retrieve was headed. When my swimbait was near where I saw the fish I killed the retrieve to let it fall and the snakehead nailed it on the drop. I only had a couple feet of line out so it made for an interesting (read: chaotic) fight but I managed to get it in the net.

It was a long day, 9 hours on the water in the heat, and it was a grind at times but overall it was a good day as far as snakehead fishing goes. I landed 5 fish in total and brought 4 nice ones home to fill the freezer.
