  • Johnsons Pond

    Hey,

New to the forum. Live in Salisbury, MD. Am going to hit Johnsons pond for the first time today going for LMB. Any tips? Been reading old fish reports on here, not sure if anyone has been there recently. I fish Leondards quite a bit as I live down the street. Thanks!

I've never fished Johnsons Pond specifically, but with the hot weather we've been having lately I'd expect the water temps to be in the mid 80's. Fishing early in the morning will probably be your best bet for LMB, get on the water before dawn and fish hard till the sun comes over the treetops. That might be your only shot. Once the sun gets high the bite slows down in my experience... I'd start targeting shaded areas - areas under overhanging trees or shaded by thick lily pads if there are any. I don't know how deep Johnsons gets (probably not very deep) but you could try deeper water later in the morning/afternoon as the bass seek cooler water. Even better if you can find some structure in the deep water like fallen trees or anything that would attract fish.

Good luck and welcome to the forum! Post a report after your trip.

Edit: I just re-read your post and saw that you are going today. I guess you missed the pre-dawn window In that case I'd recommend going late in the afternoon and fishing until sundown. The heat of mid-day can make fishing really tough, not to mention uncomfortable for you on the water!

Thanks! Yea the LMB bite has been on fire here even with the heat. We pulled up a couple 5-6lbers saturday in parkers pond. Hoping we get some afternoon storms to fish around, that usually fires the bite right up.

If you're catching them that big in this heat, I think we're the ones that should be getting advise from you!

All I can say is, the wacky rig is superior in all temperatures.

Ain't that the truth. Two of my biggest bass this year have come on the wacky rig.
