  • Fishing report: Sunday morning Harbor Hospital

Got to the ramp about 9:30 thismorning to fish the out going tide which was sceduled to run from 9:40 am to noonish, water was flat as glass and no wind. Made my way out to the #10 red marker dropped 3 lines and started my troll towards marker #7, 5 min later first rod went down and reeled in a 17 incher. Continued with my troll and 10 min later all 3 rods went down but only managed to get 2 in a 18" and 20 incher, the 19" went into the box and released his friend. Continued trolling around #7 marker with multiple knock downs another 23 incher in the box, kept on this pattern till noon with a total of 11 knock downs with fish up to 26 inches should have kept that last spot open but they were all released to fight another day.

Ran into another member who was doing well but forgot his name. Once back to the ramp talked to "daddyg" who had just come in with a real nice striper as well but I will let him post about that.

Lure's trolled today were: Tandem 5 inch bucktail and spoon which caught most of the fish, tandem yozuri crystal minnows a deep diver and a floating both 4 ", and a 4" storm lure.

Nice to meet you Mike! Thanks for the tip

Made it to the launch about 0700 with the bay being glass. Started by trolling from the launch out to bouy #7 then across the channel and up to the point of Ft McHenry. First fish was a short 16" just past channel marker #10 and then lost a nice fish just west of #7 (this was a sign for the rest of the day ). The rest of the first pass was uneventful. Took some time to try and jig a few different spots and picked up some white perch in 15-20 fow. No real size to them but I kept a few to try live lining. Then I worked my way back across the channel and set up to jig and liveline. Managed an 18" and then went over and introduced myself to Mike. He mentioned he had been getting some hits out deeper from #7, where I had lost one earlier, so with the wind that was picking up I decided to start trolling again. Started running a loop in the area and getting hit pretty hard but only managing to land every other fish or so Still, over the next couple hours I managed around 7 or 8 more nice solid fish Decided around 1400 that I had had enough of the wind that was now singing through my fishing lines and headed for the ramp.

All told I ended up with around 8 nice rock trolling deep x-raps, 1 decent rock some small perch and some dinks jigging a sonar, and 1 short hit on a live lined perch. Will post a few pictures later. Good Fishin

glad you guys had a good day on the water. i tried to find the launch site to hook up with ya. my directions took me to a marina that i knew wasn't right. then i found the launch site right next to the hospital.... is that where you launch....??? then i asked someone they gave me directions that wasn,t even close. by that time i was dizzy trying i ended up back at the key bridge caught 1 dink and a 2nd 22 inches wind started to pick up got off the water. i wish i could have fished the area you guys have been fishing just to learn the area a bit... but wasn't sure if the launch next to the hospital was the right place and didn't want to just take a shot... hit or miss. anyway glad your day was sucessful ""bent rods & tight lines always my friends"" phil

I will be fishing there tomorrow, low tide is 10:42 and looks like good temps too. The ramp is to the left of the hospital right off hanover st. If your coming from the south of the hospital its the last right turn before hanover st bridge and if your coming from the north its the first left as soon as you come across the bridge. I will prob be there between 9:30 and 10:00 am.

              I Used to Work There.

I worked at Harbor Hospital for a couple of years about a decade ago. My office overlooked the water and I would see kayaks out occasionally. I wasn't into kayak fishing or bass fishing back then so I didn't know what I was missing. I know exactly where the boat launch is, so one day I'll head out and see what happens.

About how far of a paddle are you guys making out there before you begin to hookup with fish?

You can paddle as far as you want, but you could hook up with fish anywhere in that channel. There's a Ferry Bar Park that juts out and then drops off into a 20' deep hole where I marked fish and did catch a nice one there...and that's probably only a few minute paddle. I talked to a guy who told me he actually caught a cow nose ray in that spot. It's hard to believe they come up that far.

I usually dropp my lines in to troll right at the #12 red marker which is about a 1/4 mile from the ramp, #7 marker where most my hook ups have been is just over 1/2 mile from the ramp. I paddle out and kick my trolling motor on for the troll and keep my speed about 3 knts.

Most of my fish yesterday came off a #15 PET spoon that I ran in a tandem with a 1 once buctail. I have also heard reports of people catching from shore using spoons with rock around 20 inches.

Yak fish, That is a nice hole but I have'nt caught anything there yet. The Rays were piled in around the Key Bridge last year and thats not that far away.

Mike, 1/2 mile to #7? Man that sure feels farther at the the end of the day!

DanMarino, I usually troll all the way out but haven't been picking anything up until the vicinity on Channel marker #10

Sorry, think my measurment is way off. Now that I look at it on google maps its a good mile give or take. My GPS is way off for some reason.

Nice fish daddyg! I hadn't tried fishing there lately but my second time out of Harbor Hospital the bait, silversides I think, were really piled in next to that pier pretty heavy. Might have to try jigging there again when the wind is beating me up at #7
