We were coming across the bay about a mile and a half from shore headed for Piney Point as the sun was dropping below the horizon- the orange glow in the clouds across the blue waters was a scene right out of a postcard- it was a gorgeous day- one of the nicest days I have been on the water.

Ive been out the last couple weekends near bloody point and the fish are definitely deep. Had to go to at least 45' to see any marks. Quite a few in the 40" + class but its been a slow bite. Was there this past saturday before sunset and it sounded like on the radio that the bite really turned on but unfortunately shut off after about 30 minutes.

I picked up a couple mid 20's last weekend but unfortunately got the skunk this past saturday unless you count hooking a 4" rockfish in the back with a stingsilver .... lol. We actually were jigging up white perch in 60' last weekend.

Nice fish guys. Those are some fatties.

Wow Cage Rattler. 60' of water for the white perch. Talked to the guys at anglers and they said reports of some nice perch were coming in, but deep. Didn't know they were that deep, though. We didn't catch any perch this past Sat, so we settled for jigging stripers from around the eastern rockpile.

Perch winterize in the really deep holes of the bay....I've heard of some larger perch down at the mouth of patuxent as well..

I'm curious, what was the sex of the fish you caught, if you checked?

We kept our limit (four fish between two people) of fish caught around the bridge over the weekend and each of those were males. The bridge fish are usually resident fish, I think, living in the area all year.

I didn't even check- I fileted them (boneless and skinless) without opening up their stomach cavaity- about 20 years ago my then wife (since divorced her) bought me a high dollar Cutco filet knife that is sharp as a razor (still is) - that knife makes short work out of cleaning fish- so if they were girls, they were "pfat girls"-

I can take some of the credit for some of this but Bill is the photographer and he suggested Piney Point in lieu of PLO for us to fish- thanks to Bill, we caught fish and had these well composed pictures-

Great work, wish I was there!

You guys make me wish I had taken my Pro Angler out on Sunday afternoon. I live right there but have sort of given up going out on the river this late in the season as I spent all my cash buying the Pro Angler in September and have yet to get chest waders and dry top or a dry suit so I feel comfortable paddling in 50 degree water. I fished the river in a boat with my neighbor in the morning on Sunday, we blew right past the pier and caught one 22" fish close to the bay. Now I know to stay right close to home (I have really known that for years) and fish that drop.

Thanks for the great pix and for the knowledge of how you fished that area.

As for the person asking about trolling three rods on a kayak it is pretty easy. I typically fish six rods on a 17 foot center console that is about seven feet wide. If your rod tips end up about a foot apart in width you can avoid tangles by making sure that the lines all go down at different rates by adding more weight to the forward (or rear) lines and varying the length of the line. Using different planers also works. Just be very careful about how tight you make your turns. I think trolling four lines on a PA should be no problem until you catch a fish. That might be an issue that I haven't yet had the joy of facing.
