  • Severn River Fishing Video Report 12/30/11

My first video report is ready. I hope you all enjoy! My camera battery died on the way to the Pickerel spot, so I did not get any video of Pickerel fishing.

Nice video. I even made an appearance in it! haha.

I was using a similar setup where I used a 1/4 oz bucktail with a chartreuse bass assassin. I was having trouble getting it to the bottom though...it kept getting swept away with the current. I was using 20# powerpro, and I think that might have been too thick.

Very nice video. Are you guys using FFers and are you able to see these stripers on the screen? Your successes are quite impressive! When fishing the Patapsco for stripers using 4"to 5" Bass assassins at depths of ~10'-25' I pretty much use 1/2oz to 3/4oz heads. Any deeper and I switch to jigheads that weight in at .9-1.0oz... gotta get to the bottom.

All three of us yesterday had fishfinders. Mine is a basic black and white screen. I rarely see fish in the water column, but can see bottom contours very clearly. There have been a few visible fish marks above this bottom structure for the past two weeks, but not vast mounds of fish. If you look at my post from Thurs http://www.snaggedline.com/showthread.php?t=2355 you can see the FF screen in the bottom corner and can see a few marks in the water column.

I have been drifting over the debris, jigging as I go. The fish can be right on the debris or slightly up or down drift from the debris.

nice fish and video Ryan. on the other side of the bridge about 100yds and almost even with the rip rap there is a nice bunch of old bridge debris that hold a lot of fish

I was using a low-end fish finder too, and I was able to clearly see the hump of debris on the bottom, and periodically saw some marks that appeared to be fish. But most of the time, I did not see any fish on the screen.

I can see the marks. Looks like your low-end FF is working well. I use a low-end Eagle FishMark320, b/w. The transducer is mounted to the bottom of the trolling motor. Sometimes when out with other folks on their boats I wish I was looking at my simple b/w FF instead of their multi-colored fancy fishfinder. Although I gotta admit, having a "fancy" FF with a GPS system that allows you to retrace your last drift or mark specific locations would be a major bonus.

I often thought that if you forget your FF then you may as well poke an eye out while you're at it. Having a FF is as close to cheat'n as you can get without crossing the line.

Hey Ryan, Where did you get your GP960? Do you know if they have any more & do you remember how much they are/were?? I was promised one from the wifey for Christmas but it didn't quite happen yet. I do however have an IOU from her for one.
                            Thanks

I got it from Best Buy at $150, you will also need to get a SD card at about $30-$50, a tripod adapter at $8 and a yakattack panfish mount.
