Stayed close to home today - Musky catching report

So I went fishing for Crappie today at Marsh Creek near my home in PA.

Brought my ultra-light rod rigged up with 6lb test mono and Shad Darts tippedwith some minnows.

Thought I hooked the bottom ... Nope a 36" fat Musky!!

Managed a slab crappie or two as well.

Good paddle today - almost no wind. Need to figure out how to keep my feet warm and all will be good.

I love it when a big fish jumps on a UL outfit- happens to me all the time- biggest fish on the lightest rod- Musky are super fish- I love to catch and release them. Congratulations- great catch.

Really nice fish. I have never caught a Musky. Would love too do so especially on UL tackle.

As for your feet, I've been having luck with Ultimax sock liners and Outlast over the calf socks, both made by Wigwam. Those chemical toe warmers might help, too. I picked some up for the perch trip next weekend.

I throw a HotHands in the bottom of each of my wader booties when it's really cold. Works great for keeping the toes toasty.

The crappie was about 13" - nice and meaty.

As for the cold feet issue - I wear a drysuit with booties, inside I have thick Cabelas wool socks.

I bought some wading boots, side zipper, that are a size bigger than I normally wear to provide a little extra room. Still - everything's a little tight.

No room for Hot Hands warmers - plus they would get wet.

I think I'm going to get some liners. That always worked in my deer hunting boots. Thanks for the input.

Great catch on the musky. I never caught one of those. One of these days I will start paying more attention to nontidal fishing.

John- a Musky is like a Pike on steroids- big, powerful ambush predator-

Lake Trout is another fish that comes to mind that will eat just about every every other fish in the water- especially the fish you are reeling in-

Lakers are my fish of choice on light tackle. I have made several canoe/portage-in trips to the nothern section Algonquin Park in Ontario.

Have caught many many large Brookies and Lakers in those pristine lakes.

Looking to go back someday - been away too long!
