  • Yellow Perch

I fished on the Eastern Shore today. Caught lots of yellow perch and pickerel. Was a beautiful day, no wind and temps very comfortable. Can't wait until the M&G.

Sweet catch! Your photos are more impressive than any reports I have heard from the Susquehanna River this winter.

Nicely done! How long was that big fish in the left column? What was the bait/lure of choice?

The largest one today was right at 13" but nice and fat. All of my yellow perch were caught on 2" grubs in smoke color. I tried minnows all day and couldn't keep the pickerel off them. Not one yellow perch on minnows though.

            Damn nice Perch there Don.

Maybe you should suggest having the M&G there. Those are better than the perch I've seen on the Susky this year.

What pound test do you guys use or recommend for catching perch? I haven't been fishing in years so I'm at a lose when it comes to setting up a rod\line for catching perch. Thanks

I have all of my UL rods set up with 4lb test mono. I occasionally would rig one or two with 6lb. test but for many years now, just 4lb test and it is fine. I'll lose a nice pickerel now and again but even with 6lb or more, their teeth will break them free anyway.
