  • Johnsons Pond/Lake Salisbury, MD

Here are a few pics from last weekend behind my place on Johnson's pond in Salisbury. The crappie are really stocked piled in there thick. Every cast thick. They are not the largest, but Ive caught a few in the 11-12 inch range. Most are around 8-9 in range.

I went out yesterday for a few hours (sorry no pics...forgot my camera), and caught around 30 crappie, one yellow perch, a white perch, 2 largemouths, and what I believe to be a mud shad. All caught on minnows. There were also some guys from Towson fishing for pickeral that said they had a good day with their largest being 27 inches.

Finally feels good to have some pullage on the line. Heading out again today after lunch.

Crappie need to be harvested to prevent over populations in small impoundments- think of your fishing activity as civic responsibility and community service. As a bonus of your good work- they are one fine eating fish- LOL

Nice catch!! Have never fished Johnsons Pond. Have always heard it was decent fishing. Is there a public launch there? Is it hard to find? A friend told me it was behind the 7- Eleven on Rt. 50.

Sounds like a lot of action. Maybe 35 years ago I dragged my canoe in and launched below Johnson's Pond. I did very good with pickerel crappie and a couple of bass. Geez that was a long time ago. Never fished above the dam though. You'd think that a healthy pickerel population would help keep the crappies in check.

I live in Salisbury, and fished Johnsons once before with no luck. What part of the pond were you fishing?? I was using all artificials, maybe i should switch to minnows!

I was fishing the far North end of the pond. The channel (so to speak) is deeper there than other place except for near the boat ramp. For the most part the pond is flat. Maybe 3-4 feet on average. In the north part it drops down to 7-8 feet. If you look on google maps you will see the last house on the northeast side of the pond. I am fishing the west bank, across from their backyard. Minnows definitely help, but artificials work also. A silver mepp spinner in the warmer months never fails. In the evenings top water works well also. I have a olive Outback. Hope to see you out there.
