I emailed my photos in to the pickerel competition. The 9-incher I caught is the smallest in the contest. There should definitely be a prize for that.

Its killing me that I didn't get out there earlier with you guys. I ended up launching around 11:30 I think. Paddled upriver and tried fishing the shallows near the mouth of weems for a little bit with no luck. Spotted moc on his way out and chatted for a bit. Apparently minnows were the way to go and moc was kind enough to share a couple with me. (Thanks moc) After jigging at some pylons for a bit I tried some more creeks in the immediate area. No hook ups for me that day. Although it was nice to get the yak out of the bush. Hope to see some action at the next m&g.

I concluded my winter pickerel fishing this afternoon (the season closes on March 14, and I won't be able to fish the next two days). I was frustrated after yesterday's skunk and did not want to end like that. I snuck out for just over an hour this afternoon and caught 6 pickerel up to 19". The dozen or so minnows that were left over were given a reprieve and released alive.

I have had hours of enjoyment exploring Severn coves and creeks searching for pickerel since December. I think I caught over 200 pickerel this winter. I am happy that I could show some other MKF members where to find pickerel and how to tempt them to bite. I had an excellent mentor when I started fishing for pickerel and am glad to have a chance to share the knowledge.

I hope the pickerel have a good spawn this year so we can enjoy winter pickerel fishing for many years to come.

Nice catching folks. 200+ is a great season for any fish! Maybe I'll catch a pickerel one day.

That's a nice way to wrap up the season. Thanks for showing me the area. Hopefully, this year will be wet enough to keep them in that part of the river.

              Skunk trip

Splitscreen and I arrived very late and launched at 10:30. (All the fish had left and gone to work). We paddled against the stiff wind up to Weems Creek and stopped to get out of the wind. Fished some old pilings but nothing. Left there and I went over to Cove of Cork (thanks for the tip) but nary a nibble on my artificials. While I was in the Cove, Splitscreen went cross river to try his luck with the minnows given him on our way out. Around 2:30 we headed back to the launch, exhausted. I headed home from my first kayak fishing with nothing to show but a smile from ear to ear. Great day on the water!! Can't wait to go out again.

I'm glad you enjoyed the day, even without having caught a fish. I didn't catch anything either, and I'm still pretty sore from the paddling....but I had a great time too.

                      Thanks John!!
