almost flounder time!

Reports of flounder showing up in wachapreague, oyster, behind assateague and Indian river. Sounds good to me!

Are they keepers? I would have thought the croakers would storm in first.

Not positive. But yeah i thought the same, at least on the western shore for croakers. I havent caught any personally yet, I heard of one keeper in va but this year they're 16.5" @ 4 fish so they're smaller than our limits (at this time I should say with it still not being announced what our size and creel is) but they're not thick yet maybe soon with this weather and water temps pretty much being at 50 already I guess we will see!

i think i saw report of up to 22" reported by taylored tackle. not sure - it might have been watchapreaque.

you fish them in rehoboth or just OC?

i'm hoping to squeeze something in mid-april. i'd like to see wachapreaque again (been 20 yr) but will probably fish delaware out of convenience. if you have any luck on them, it would be nice to hear a report!

Wow really?! I must've missed that report lol but mostly oc cause its easy almost all west channel and 50 bridge and south of the west oc harbor behind the airport. Never really fish the bays I'm de I grew up fishing ir inlet just don't go too much anymore. Lemme know if you come down this way and we'll try to hook up with some. Id like to go down to wachapreague myself ive yet to fish there and have heard nothing but good things. A few friends of mime frequent garhatha and kill it every time maybe we could line up a trip in the future!

“Bucktail” Bob Watson checked in at Saltfish.net to report the first flounder of the season in Delaware’s back bays. Watson put two fish in the cooler and released four others that were on the short side of 18 inches while fishing deeper water on the falling tide. Flounder action also got under way at Wachapreague and Quinby during the past week, with catch reports from Taylored Tackle listing flatties to 22 inches from the Virginia back bay waters. Effective baits include large bullhead minnows, smelt, silversides, squid and fresh strip baits.


my memory of wachapreaque is of being very tired from driving all night to be there early, windy, generally lost feeling in the marshes, and somehow they got the skelton out of a ray, hung it on the wall of a sandwich shop and it looked like an alien from outerspace. and i caught a skunk. but i'm not holding any of that against the place - i thnk it's the real deal.

With these warm temps flounder in the back bays should definitely be picking up soon. I might hit the route 90 bridge area next thursday. The tautog should also be biting pretty good. Im looking forward to catching them from my yak.

Haven't heard anything but if you want to try oc right now behind the airport and behind the convention center are good early season spots to try out. The best thing I've found for early season flounder is to fish small ledges near shallow coves where minnows are coming in and out of. Depths of 3-5' would be your best bet right now and try to fish the decline and drift towards deeper water. This presentation is natural to how the fish are feeding.

Try around 4th street along the cement wall right in front of the skate park and tennis courts for tog its super snaggy though but that is how tog fishing can sometimes. They move out of there early on and if you cant find them there the inlet is probably your only bet. Just watch out for boats because it can get hairy at the end of the inlet and boats wont hesitate to throw a huge wake at you. Your'e going to need sand fleas or green crabs (quartered) and get towards the tip of the south jetty or along its back wall facing assateague. Good luck and be careful out there!

I fished the bulkhead 9th st from the shore plenty last summer. I dont think im ready for the inlet in the yak yet. I wanna try further north maybe the convention center, or northern thorofare for flounder. Ill also be at assateague next weekend for some surf fishing. Im bringing the yak so maybe ill hit some flounder up down there too, perhaps the airport, or by frontiertown.
