  • Fishing at Jonas Green

On Friday afternoon I headed to Jonas Green to see how the perch bite was. I managed to get quite a few bites but no hook ups. I suspect they were all small. Since I didn't want to put my boat in and my new yak hasn't arrived yet, I just fished from the rocks.

When I was leaving, I saw a woman loading a large yak in her medium sized suv and decided to say hi. She had half of it in the vehicle and half on a support pole sticking out the back. She had a system that's for sure to get the yak and all her fish'n gear in the back.

This was the first time I have seen a big Hobie out of the water and never really realized how big they really are.

I asked if she knew about snagged line and she said she had just joined up recently. Since I can't remember what I had for breakfast this morning, it's natural that I can't recall her name either.

One thing I got to say about her is that she is one dedicated yak fisher.

As an aside, when I first arrived there was a young (15-16 ) girl sitting in my favorite fishing spot talking on the phone. I fished around her while waiting for her to leave but that took almost an hour! I guess time has made me forget the phone bills that young girls can generate!

If she had a "big Hobie" it was either an Outback or a Pro Angler...both look pretty big due to their width- the Outback has such a distinct and unusual hull- almost a cloverleaf-

Sorry, I was so facinated by the yak, I never asked if she caught any fish.

I was using shad darts with a bit of Gulp blood worm on them. I keep those in my tackle box for days when I only have an hour to fish and don't want to bother with frozen or live bait.

The woman I met was a middle aged black woman with some silver starting to show in her hair and a very pleasant dispostion. I was heading out to dinner with my wife so I didn't get into a long personal conversation.

You can't miss her if you see her rig. That Hobie sticks half way out the back end of the vehicle.
