  • flounder in oc

Went out to what is basically my back yard last night and fished the eastern route 90 bridge as I've been picking up a few linesiders in the lights around the flats and as I'm slowly trolling my half oz. Spro white Bucktail not even dressed up in 3.4' of water I see my rod dip and it went slow? Can't be rockfish that's this sluggish can it? Two minutes later I see her surface and had a feeling from the head shakes that it was a flounder so after a little bit of getting pulled around I land my first flounder of the year, just barely md citatiom size @ 24 3/8"! Definitely bigger than any I've had in several years and happened to be my first and only fish of the night immediatly after that I call my buddy Chris and he comes out to join me and immediately he hooks up with a rockfish, a smaller one @25" then the next one broke him off he continued to get six more around that size while I was fishing the same lure/retrieve I even tied on a leader to see if that could change my luck, oh well, I didn't get the skunk! good night of paddling overall and final proof for me at least that yes, they are here already!

All fish were caught on white bucktails tipped with a bubblegum shad cept the flattie

Nice work. I'm down here now but been fishin the surf at AI. Skates, Skates, etc.

Where's the best location to launch if your target area is the Route 90 bridge? I know Fluke season opens this coming weekend and i was going to bring my yak down with me on our next trip down.

Is there a launch point at the Isle of Wight park?

    Nice work again.

Yeah theres a good launch at the island its little bit of a paddle till you get to the first pilings like 3/4 mileish so not rally that bad but I launch in oc on the same street as Fagers there's a little beach and you get right to the flats quick I haven't looked for any other spots but I know with simmer coming up parking will be super limited everywhere including the island most days I've never fished the west bridge but I'm sure there's spots to launch from and fish too

I'll do that. I plan to be back in a couple weeks. I'll be here most of the summer as well. I'm right in the pines.

Thanks for the report! I'll be over there in two weeks and can't wait!
Not sure exactly where you guys are fishing, but there is a nice little beach off of Selsey road where you can park and launch within easy reach of the 90 bridge and some of the other popular flounder haunts in the area. I launched there last year.
