  • 4/17/12 south river success. First south river fish of the year!!!! :)

Today after school I longboarded down to my community pier with a rod with a bottom rig and a rod with a 1/2 ounce buck tails. I cast out with a 2 ounce weight on the bottom rig baited with salted bloodworms. I set the rod down and put a bell on the tips and then began casting the buck tail. Within seconds I got a hit and caught a very fat 6 inch perch. I caught 11 all together and all were 5-7 inches.they were not black walnut cove size perch but it was great to finally catch a fish in the river. In 2 weeks the croakers should be in and the strippers are in now because I cast out a live 5inch perch with a fish finder rig and in about 20minutes my drag started running I got almost gots spooled on 14 pound test suffix but after 1 or 2 minutes the line snapped. I suspect a trophy stripper or cow nose ray but I just couldn't stop the thing it was so exiting, tomorrow I'm going out with 40 pound test braid to catch whatever it was.btw I caught all fish in Shelby bay near th mouth of the river I'm on my iPad and my laptop isn't with me and it won't let me post pics but I will when I get my laptop, thanks for reading

Nice work! Watch those double p's in Stripers, a trophy stripper is a completely different sort of animal!

Maybe you should take an anchor out on that long board. If you catch a trophy stripper on 40lb braid, it may take you down to the CBBT.

        Good luck,
        John
